I Love Rockabilly

I was at the Home Depot Store today and I admired the store clerk's bright orange hair.  It was florescent orange, and she had thick black mascara, applied like Marilyn Monroe. This isn't a photo of her, but this gives you an idea.  I just love this style!

orange red pin-up hair. Her makeup is amazing!
Look at this link of an older woman, by the way,  I think she looks fabulous with her tattoos and dyed hair!

I wouldn't get permanent tattoos myself, but it would be fun to get temporary ones put on.

Doesn't she look great?

I love the retro styles now too, especially the 40's.  Here's some of my favorite rockabilly items on Etsy:

Cherries seems to be a big thing with Rockabilly.

I made this pouch and realized that it had Rockabilly in it too.  Plus, red, black and white seem to be a common theme with Rockabilly.

Who knows?  It would be so cool to do a craft show at a Rockabilly show.  There's one in Las Vegas every Easter weekend:

Minnesota Farm Vacation: Presents to Myself

On my recent Minnesota farm vacation I bought this jewelry set in Rochester at a store that sells everything, including farm equipment.  Yes, that's what I said.  They had a little bit of everything, including jewelry. Plus, it was on sale.

The beads are on a wire so at a distance, it looks like the beads are floating on your neck.  Of course, that large tiger theme rose is to die for.  I love animal prints and coupled with rhinestones, I'm over the moon.

I love dark brown so I've worn this jewelry set about 9-10 times already with my brown print dresses, blouses, skirts...I've worn it for dress up and casual.

I also bought this necklace watch at that same farm store.  Also on sale.

Isn't it cute?  Little rhinestones are in the middle, my favorite.

The piece facing the watch is a mirror, so it's come in handy when I have broccoli in my teeth.  I've also worn this number about 5-6 times, dress up, casual.

I've bought some of my nicest jewelry on my trips to Minnesota.  What gifts to yourself do you buy when you're on vacation?

Oh, My Aching Back

Well, as you know I've been going to the gymn walking like a mad woman, trying to get rid of my pooch.  My back hurt a little at first but it got progressively worse, instead of feeling better.

I stretched and stretched, but it still hurt.  I got three massages, but to no avail.  What was wrong with my back?!

Guess what?  It was my shoes!  I was wearing tennis shoes that I probably bought 5-6 years ago...they still looked good, so what was the harm in wearing them, right?

Well, when I was on the Misty Meadows Farm in Minnesota on vacation, it occurred to me to buy some cushiony shoes, something I am not accustomed to buying.  I usually buy blingy shoes with little or no support, like these shoes I recently bought.

No real support, but aren't they pretty?!

I started by buying these shoes, they're all right cute, but not usually what I go for.  I bought them at K-mart and they were on sale, so they cost approximately $17.

The brand name is "Cuddles" and it's true, they really cuddle and cushion your feet.  My back immediately started to feel better!

I like the cutouts on the red suede.  I wore these everywhere on my Minnesota vacation!

And then I bought these mules, also at K-mart, also on sale.  They have a nice arch support and are super comfy too.  They are Thom McCann. I don't remember ever owning Thom McCann shoes....I guess I'm growing up.

The cutouts in these shoes are pretty cute too. I wear these all the time now and my back finally feels great.

Last, here are the walking shoes I bought.  I researched some online for the best walking shoes, and New Balance got pretty good marks across the board.  They are extremely lightweight and comfy and have got a nice arch support.   And more important...they're cute!

What shoes do you wear that make your back feel great?

Minnesota Farm Vacation: Rochester Farmers Market

Here are some photos I took at the Rochester Farmers Market in Minnesota on my vacation.  I love Rochester!

Lots of good eats!

This is the first Lefsa I've ever tried, I had mine with butter and cinnamon on long, flat bread.  YUM!

I also ate three apple, two cherry and one plain home made doughnut.  Hey, you're only on vacation for a short time, right?

I loved this wood working booth

This bus was a cool prop for a booth, wasn't it?

I saved the best for last.....

Isn't orange the new "in" color?

Purple and Brown Faux Fur Tote

I know I haven't finished my orange dress yet, but I was so proud of this fur bag I just made, I wanted to show it off!

I love the fur, it's multi-colored, plus, the fur is cut unevenly making it even more interesting.

I was really happy with how the lining turned out too, it goes so well with the bag!

Purple and Brown Fur Tote
When I was growing up, it seemed like certain color combinations were more basic, but maybe that's just my perception.  Do you like the combination of purple and brown?

It's 106 degrees today in Las Vegas.  Can't wait for the Fall!

New Line of Pouches

I've been so busy, I've had to put the orange sherbet dress on the back burner.  I am getting ready for two shows, making and filling orders, and preparing two new pouch lines for my Gypsy Girl Fashions Etsy Shop.

These are some photos of one of the new line of pouches.  I really enjoy making these pouches, I'm using a lot of vintage fabrics (isn't the tomato package cute?) and trims.  They are very creative and no two are alike.

The middle pocket is designed to hold business cards or your ID.  I revised the pattern several times and finally got the pocket to the right size so cards fit real snug in it.  I love the red fabric holding the key ring to the right, it matches the lining.
Here's the inside of one of the pouches, I thought the western theme was cute.  I love red, white and black together.

Here's a group of the pouches together.

I'll post when they come available to my shop.  I need to do some serious sewing tonight!

Has it been hot enough for you lately?  It was 106 degrees today in Las Vegas!

Minnesota Farm Vacation: Pony and Donkey

Well, I realized I still had these photos in my camera of my recent vacation to the Misty Meadows Farm and I just had to post them, they are so cute!

I got these great pics of the donkey and pony...they're about the same size but the donkey is much older.  They seem to get along to well.

What are friends for, except to use each other as scratching posts to get rid of annoying insects!

Sometimes you have to roll around on your back for a good scratch.

And Blue Violet (or Spot) the goose wanted to say hi too.

I'm really missing the farm!  Do you have any summer vacation stories on a farm?

Minnesota Farm Vacation: My Meadering Misty Meadows Walk

I had such a relaxing morning walking in the cool (60 degrees), foggy morning on my Minnesota Farm Vacation. I walked about 20 minutes on the gravel road in front of the Paul and Lela Wiens' farmhouse where I stayed.

Off in the distance was the cattle, all staring at me as I got closer.

It's sort of an eerie feeling as ALL the cattle stare at you.  Apparently, they are easily spooked.

Of course, I really loved the babies.   Oh, by the way, check out the two calves above.  They look exactly alike and are standing in the same position.  They almost seemed to be carbon copies of each other!

I guess they finally got bored with looking at me.

Good bye, I'll miss you guys!

Stay tuned for Orange Sherbet Dress construction coming up next!
