Grandma's Buttons

I was just going through my many buttons, all shapes, sizes and colors.

My favorite buttons, by far, is from the jar of buttons my grandma gave me from her attic in Traverse City, Michigan.

They are stored in old mason jar. But what's really cool is that the women back in her time saved EVERYTHING. So, amongst the buttons are hooks and eyes, bra clasps, needles, small thread spools...and I love the military buttons and badges. Who wore them? Were they from a child killed during the war? From a sweetheart that never came back?

This is a bag I made with one of my grandma's buttons.
Khaki Flowers Purse

I found a small article in one of my button stashes once. There was a carefully folder article from 1960 about a woman becoming the first police officer in that area. The judge, after he swore her in, told her to "keep her powder dry".

What is the appeal of Turquoise and Gray?

I see so much of this combination lately, and I love it.

Check out this website about color: http://www.empower-yourself-with-color-psychology.comTurquoise is a combination of blue and a small amount of yellow, turquoise fits in on the color scale between green and blue. This color radiates the peace, calm and tranquility of blue and the balance and growth of green with the uplifting energy of yellow.

On the other hand, gray is a detached, neutral color, neither white nor black or a "fence-sitter." Gray has a steadying effect on other colors. What a perfect complement for turqoise!

This bag reminds me of springtime and St. Patrick's Day!

I fell in love with this fabric combination as soon as I matched it up!

Such a pretty kelly green color, and lovely leaves and flowers with gold intertwined all through the fabric. I used a lovely faux leather for the handle, it's a pretty caramel brown and blends perfectly with the caramel in the main body of the purse.

And of course, what would this purse be without a gorgeous metal button with a kelly green center?

Love, love, love!
